Legacy of the ribbons: a poem about the cruelty of girlhood
My sister, a catalyst of change,
Unearths within me a perspective so strange.
The trials of girlhood are harsh,
Unearths within me a perspective so strange.
In this vast world of girlhood, I find,
A puzzle board with few pieces left behind
She helps me find the missing parts,
Those fragments lost, scattered in my heart.
Yet, these same pieces will crumble, too,
In her journey, as life's cruelty ensues.
A girl untouched by the world's sharp gaze,
Cursed by expectations, in a cruel haze.
Men, who understand naught, impose their will,
But she, unapologetically loud, stands still.
When rejected, she screams with might,
A scream that echoes through the night.
A little girl's rebellion, fierce and bold,
Leaving remnants of her womanhood untold.
She is grand, her presence immense,
Running, jumping, with no pretense.
Unfazed by those who may stumble and fall,
For their underestimation is their own downfall.
Her body, the vessel of creation and strife,
Births discoveries and tragedies, shaping life.
The universe resides within her frame,
A testament to her power, her claim to fame.
She is free, unbound by societal chains,
Her liberty shines through all her gains.
With each bite, she devours life's feast,
Unyielding, despite her mother's pleas.
Her footsteps echo, pounding against the tide,
Each stride a desire to be seen, to be heard,
Fueling the rage within, like an untamed bird.
She is a girl, destined to become a woman,
No force can alter this sacred phenomenon.
Not even god, who imprisoned her at birth,
For she will bleed into womanhood, the weight of expectations on her shoulders,
The trials of girlhood are harsh,
Tortured into womanhood, she must endure,
And as soon as she escapes,
Motherhood demands her, leaving her unsure.
But my sister is a girl,
But my sister is a girl,
And she's not alone in this world,
Every woman that ever existed,
Lives within her, a vessel unfurled.
Protected and safe, she'll be,
May she break the curse, and set us free,
